Frequently Asked Questions
Does Western Esotericism Reading Club have events outside the Pittsburgh, PA area?
Nope. This is it.
Are you affiliated with this or that organization?
No. Western Esotericism Reading Club is not affiliated with any other organization. It is a book club, that is all.
Can I attend one of your meetings if I haven’t read the chosen book?
If you want to observe a meeting just to see what it’s like, sure. But I think if you attend more than one or two meetings without doing the reading, it won’t be a very satisfying experience.
Why hold an in-person book club when there are so many online book clubs?
Because the in-person experience is different. I think it encourages greater committment and a greater sense of community. In the case of a book club, I hope the face-to-face interaction encourages people to take the content more seriously. I also think people tend to treat each other with more respect in-person than they do online.
Why do so many of your meetings say “pending approval”?
Because for now Western Esotericism Reading Club reserves meeting space through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP). CLP only permits reservations by financial quarter. This means, at most, I can only reserve three meetings at a time.
